C4 Survivor: 1991 Chevrolet Corvette with 16k Miles

1991 Chevrolet Corvette exterior front

For July 31, 2021, our used car find is this 1991 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with just 16k miles. It’s offered on Craigslist by a private seller in the Orange County area for $16,995 or best offer.

Here’s what makes this one special.

The Listing

The fourth generation Corvette (C4) first appeared in showrooms for the 1984 model year. Replacing the aging C3 generation (which was basically a re-bodied C2), the C4 was leaps ahead in design and technology. And the good folks at the Bowling Green factory kept making improvements to it through the C4’s long lifespan, which stretched 13 years to 1996.

This example comes from one of our favorite C4 years, after Chevrolet gave the Corvette a mild facelift but before the debut of the LT1 engine, which was plagued by issues with its Optispark ignition system. Sure the old-school L98 pushrod V8 fitted here makes “only” 245 horsepower (vs. 300 for the LT1). But it also churns out a whopping 345 lb-ft of torque, which is actually more than the LT1 (at 330).

This one also sports a classic color combination — white on blue (really more of a blue-gray) — which, to our eyes, looks quite smashing on the C4’s simple but elegant lines.

1991 Chevrolet Corvette interior instrument panel

If you follow the C4 market, you know that their interiors don’t tend to hold up all that well. Here, though, it looks practically new, which is a testament both to the car’s low miles and also to the care it’s received from prior owners.

In the words of the seller…

For sale is a 1991 Corvette with less than 16,000 miles!!

Always stored inside with a cover.

This car is like a brand new 1991 Corvette!!

All interior parts are like new, including drivers seat and passenger seat bolsters.
All rubber weatherstrips are original / like new..
Replaced all radiator and heater hoses last year with OEM Gm hoses. All fluids flushed and replaced last year. New thermostat was installed when hoses were replaced.

New BFG Comp TA tires were replaced last year in place of the original Goodyear Eagles.
Have the original window sticker and build sheet. Also have the original dealer paper plates.
AC blows ice cold and everything works as it should.
The paint looks just like it did when it left the Bowling Green plant in 1991, the finish is flawless with not even a single rock chip or blemish.
This car needs nothing. Must see in person to appreciate!

I guarantee you will not find a cleaner, better preserved/maintained C4 Corvette!!

Asking $16,995 or best offer

Of course, we would prefer one with a manual gearbox. But the four-speed automatic fitted here isn’t a deal killer. After all, an old Corvette like this makes a far better cruiser than autocross competitor. Plus, with the L98’s massive torque available at low RPMs, you’re rarely going to go wanting for power.

The asking price of $16,995 (or best offer) is on the high side for a C4, and it’s probably too much to pay for this one, frankly. The same car was advertised for sale on West Coast Corvettes for $12,900 back in 2019. C4 values have been pretty flat since then, so we’d say $12,000 or less for this would be well bought — and a heck of a lot of car for the money.
