For October 24, 2020, our used car find is this one-owner, 28k mile 2011 Mazda MX-5 Miata with the power-retractable hardtop (PRHT) and a 6-speed manual transmission. It’s listed on craigslist by a private seller in the Bay Area for $16,250.
Here’s what makes this car special.
Introduction
The third generation Miata, dubbed NC, debuted in 2005 (as a 2006 model). It was larger, heavier, and more powerful than earlier NA and NB generations, and also something of a departure looks-wise, with more modern lines. Not everybody loved the changes. Nevertheless the NC did win Car and Driver’s 10 Best list every year of its production run, through 2013.

The Listing
This example hails from the NC2 years, and, in top-level Grand Touring trim, includes all of the best features available on the Miata, including the Suspension package (which also adds a limited-slip differential), Xenon headlights, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. It’s also equipped with the power-retractable hardtop (PRHT), which is a marvel of engineering simplicity, adding just 70 lbs of weight and taking up no additional trunk space.
This one’s for sale by the original owner, who has used it quite sparingly over the years, adding just 28k miles. The seller reports a full service history at the local indy mechanic, plus new tires around 4800 miles ago.
While the asking price of $16,250 may sound high for a ten-year-old Miata, it’s in line with KBB’s estimate for one with these miles and in this spec.
We think $15,500 or under would be well bought.
