A sporty diesel wagon is a pretty rare thing (in the US). If you want something from the last 30 years, you’ve got your VW Jetta/Golf TDI and this.
And this particular 3 Series wagon has quite a bit going for it – it sports not just low miles and nice colors but also an unusually full list of options and packages, among them the M Sport package, the Technology package, the Premium package, plus a bunch of other goodies like heated seats and steering wheel, Xenon headlights, and the upgraded Harmon Kardon stereo. It’s loaded, with a total MSRP (when new) approaching $60,000.
The F30 generation 3 Series diesel features a 2 liter turbodiesel four cylinder that puts out 180 hp and more importantly 280 ft-lbs of torque at just 1750 rpm. Mated to ZF’s great 8-speed automatic gearbox, that’s enough grunt to get to 60 mph in about 7 seconds. Not exactly a speed demon, but it’s enough. And the real story is that it manages 35 mpg (combined) while doing it.
This one is offered on craigslist HERE by a private seller in the East Bay for $26,000, which is in line with KBB’s estimates and represents a 55% discount from new.
