1995 Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel with 98k Miles

1995 Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel

For November 20, 2020, our used car find is this unusually clean 1995 Mercedes-Benz E300 Diesel sedan in handsome Midnight Blue factory paint and with just 98k miles from new. It’s offered on Autotrader by a private seller in the Washington D.C. area for $7900.

Here’s what makes this one special.

Introduction

The W124 generation E Class debuted in the US for the 1986 model year. It was a massive leap forward in almost every respect from the classic W123 generation it replaced, with a sleek new body designed by the legendary Bruno Sacco as well as more modern underpinnings, many of them borrowed from the development of the W201 “Baby Benz” that debuted a few years earlier.

These updates transformed not only the car’s looks but also its performance. It remained as utilitarian as ever, but as famed automotive journalist David E. Davis recalled in Automobile Magazine, “The car had a hard edge to it, and it was sheer joy to hammer one down an empty mountain road.”

The Listing

Diesel engines have been a Benz hallmark since the 1950s, and that tradition continued with the W124, which offered a variety of oil burners during its nine year run. This particular car, from the final production year, is equipped with a naturally-aspirated six cylinder (OM606) putting out 134 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. That’s not much, but with all of the torque available at a relatively low 2600 rpm, it gets the job done. Plus it returns 23 mpg city and 29 mpg highway, which is terrific for a 25 year old luxury car.

Of course the main draw of a diesel engine from Mercedes is its longevity, and with not even 100k miles on the odometer, this one’s got tons of life left. Its prior owners also seem to have looked after it rather well. Inside and out, it looks almost new, with deeply glossy paint and hardly any evidence of wear on the upholstery or wood trim. Not to mention, the color combo of Midnight Blue on Palomino is one of the best that Mercedes ever offered.

The seller reports an impressive list of recent maintenance, including new brakes, new tires, as well as a new headliner. The car also boasts an accident-free vehicle history report. Nevertheless, it’s always a good idea to have the car checked out by a specialist prior to purchase.

The asking price of $7900 is quite reasonable for such a nice W124 — and especially for a diesel variant since they tend to command a premium.

We don’t expect this one to last long.
