If you’re looking for a “forever car” – one that you could likely drive and enjoy for the rest of your life, with only basic upkeep – consider this unusually nice final year 240 wagon. You won’t win many races (though you can improve the handling substantially with some of the excellent aftermarket parts from IPD); however, I don’t think you’ll ever tire of the car’s charming simplicity, functionality, and design.

This example appears to be one of the best out there, and as part of the limited final year Classic trim (with just 800 sedans and 800 wagons in the US), it should hold its value quite well, even if you rack up the miles.

It’s offered on craigslist HERE by the brother of an indy Volvo shop owner in the Chicago area for $12,000, which isn’t cheap but is also far less than you’d pay on Bring a Trailer.

No forever cars here in the Midwest.

I drive my car, only for a moment, and the moment’s gone
All my old cars pass before my eyes, a curiosity
Rust in the wind
All they are is rust in the wind.

Haha – yes, good point. And 240s do rust, though apparently these later versions are much better protected.

This one’s back up on eBay as an auction this time. Bidding’s at $7000 so far with reserve not met and six days left…
