Here’s a very clean W124 generation E-Class sedan. A lifelong California car that has clearly been garaged and well cared for most of its life (see: unfaded wood console trim, good original paint, Michelin tires), this is the kind of example you wait months if not longer to find.
One minor negative is that it has “only” the 2.8 liter version of the M104 inline six (vs. the typical 3.2 liter version), but it still puts out 190 horsepower (vs. 228 hp for the 3.2). That’s pretty potent for the day and is about the same as the power offered by the M103 engine, which was fitted to these cars in earlier years.
This is one of the Benz models affected by the dreaded biodegradable wiring harness issue, so you’ll want to try to clarify whether the car has had its original harness replaced. If not, count on having to do that during your ownership, which will set you back about $1500 at a competent indy mechanic.
It’s offered on eBay HERE by a Bay Area private seller as a no reserve auction. It will be interesting to see how high the bidding goes. Anything under $6000 would be well bought, I think.
